Salvation Army Waiʻoli Tea Room
HONOLULU ADULT REHABILITATION CENTER
The Salvation Army Waiʻoli Tea Room was a Honolulu restaurant that operated from 1922 to 2014. After being closed for several years, it reopened in November 2018 as Waiʻoli Kitchen and Bake Shop.
Located in Mānoa Valley, the Waiʻoli Tea Room was formally dedicated in 1922, as part of the Salvation Army Girls' Home program to teach young women marketable job skills.
The Salvation Army facility was one of several institutions in Hawaii in that era that provided care for those in need. The concept for Wai'oli Tea Room was based on the high tea traditions of British Columbia emigrants living in Hawaii at the time it was built in 1922. Waiʻoli used "high tea" and "afternoon tea" to mean the same thing.

Through a holistic approach, The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers serve as a beacon of hope to people seeking help for any number of social and life issues. Their programs focus on the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being for the people who choose to participate.
WHO THEY SERVE
For over 100 years, their charitable residential ARC programs serve individuals facing profound instability by providing an environment that is designed to help participants live healthy, fulfilling lives, generally at no cost to them.
Today in Hawaii, the Salvation Army does not serve orphan children, but rather is one of the largest providers of treatment for individuals suffering with substance abuse disorders.
Waioli Kitchen & Bake Shop seeks to revitalize this historic treasure and is honored to restore it to its original mission of meeting the needs of the underserved in our community. The new Waioli provides vocational training for graduates of programs for the treatment of substance abuse disorders and for individuals recently released from incarceration.
